SHALFLEET PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

Shalfleet Parish Council held its January meeting on Wednesday 13th via Zoom.

Wellow Millennium Green:  We had Elliot Davie join us a member of the public. Elliot spoke of his idea to have some form of adult gym installed on Wellow Millennium Green.

We explained that the Green is not owned by the Parish Council.  We then informed Elliot that for him to proceed he should contact the management Trust of Wellow Millennium Green to obtain their approval.

As a Parish Council, we feel it would be something we may be able support once Elliot has the necessary groundwork and permission sorted.

Finance:  One item on the agenda was to decide our budget for 2021/22.

We amalgamated our Open spaces and Outdoor maintenance budgets as they are closely linked.

We are very pleased to inform you that yet again we have been able to maintain our precept at the same level. This is the 5th year in succession we have managed not to have to increase our precept, which impacts on your Council Tax bill.

Withyfields:

Snowdrops:  By the time your copy of Village News reaches you, Brighstone Landscapes Ltd will have planted over 250 snowdrops at Withyfields, to enhance the area further.

Stone Wall:  Parish Councillors noted that the Clerk was in the process of obtaining quotations to repair the stone retaining wall on the roadside along Church Lane, Withyfields.  A decision to approve one of the quotations will be made at the February meeting, where this will be an agenda item.

Hedge Removal:  Further to investigations into several roadside hedges being removed in the Parish, Island Roads have confirmed they have no record of requesting a landowner to remove sections of their hedge.  They would ask them to maintain their vegetation so as not to cause an obstruction/danger to highway users.

Nuisance Calls/Scams:  The Parish Council are aware of several people who have received nuisance calls, one stating there was a warrant out for tax evasion.  If you have any concerns over calls and emails you can contact Trading Standards Tel: (01983) 823000 or Scams Advice Line 0808 250 5050.

Elections:  This year is the year for local Elections, at the time of the meeting we were uncertain as to whether these would occur. However, at time of my writing we have been reliably informed that the Isle Of Wight Elections will go ahead in May.

2021 Meeting Dates:  All meetings of Shalfleet Parish Council will continue on-line via Zoom, on Wednesdays, starting at 7.15 pm until further notice.

Please contact the Clerk, Sally Woods on Tel: (01983) 531491 or email clerk@shalfleetiow.org.uk for a password if you wish to join the meeting.
